Pros

The only postitives are that some members of staff are nice and at the end of the day it's a job.

Cons

Everything. Head office are useless and have no clue what they're doing. They're hiring all staff from wyevale, is that really a good move, hiring staff from a failing business. The staff coming from wyevale are managment staff and are extremely rude and hostile. The attitude of our manager stinks. The food is terrible and over priced, I would't even feed it to a stray. I'm ashamed to tell people where I work. The pay is disgusting for the work you are expected to do. Overtime, long hours, no breaks are also expected with no thanks being given. Staff turnover has gone from high to extremely high, even the new staff that come here don't stay long. It's well know in the area for having poor staff treatment. Stop hiring Wyevale staff you idiots. Look after the staff you have and they will look after your company. unless you are extremely desperate for a job I would stay far away from Dobbies.

Dobbies Response

We are very fortunate in attracting experienced people from the garden centre industry to join us at Dobbies. We are ambitious to set the very highest standards in our garden centres and restaurants and we are working hard to achieve it. This may not suit everyone and we wish them luck in pursuing a new career.

Pros

immediate team are genuinely amazing they supportive, kind and incredibly understanding. There are some truly lovely people across the business who work hard and try their best despite the environment. Sometimes fun things happen in the office.

Cons

There is no clear path upwards, no genuine opportunity to move into higher roles. People stay stuck regardless of effort or performance. External candidates are always favoured higher than the current staff. Bullying is a real problem here, and it’s incredibly disheartening that it’s either dismissed, minimised, or brushed aside. There’s no consistent action taken to protect staff or address toxic behaviour. Expectations are completely unrealistic for the number of people and hours in the day. You’re expected to work past your contracted hours, but there’s no TOIL, and no way to claim the time back, it’s simply treated as part of the job. The more you work yourself to the point of burnout the more you are praised. Real issues are never addressed whether it’s bullying, workload, systems, or structural problems, nothing truly gets resolved. Problems are rarely ever acknowledged or acted upon. Profit over people and their true physical and mental wellbeing.
