It was a fun environment

Promotions were based on favoritism

• free dough and drinks (barely) • the dough was SO good and super fun to make • fun atmosphere if you’re working with the right crew • we got to play our own music provided it fit the “vibes” of the business (aka black music)

• the entire premise of the store is built off of watered down stereotypes of black people and black culture but covered up by it just being “bay area” vibes • not everyone was trained on every aspect of the store within enough time to be comfortable working in any section alone or just straight up refused to learn which fell back on the rest of us to pick up the slack (specifically the barista side) • lack of communication and listening amongst managers • TOO focused on yelp/google reviews especially the ones that were out of OUR control (price range, people not being able to finish their entire order, mouth being dyed by the food dye, etc) • people placed in management positions that were 100% not fit for the role • ridiculous amounts of gossipy, two faced, middle school mean girl energy that stemmed from the supervisors and affected how they would treat certain employees • mental health days are great but not when you’re made to feel guilty for even considering taking one
