Pros
The pace of the work is fast, and if you have strong coworkers, the camaraderie on the floor can be a temporary shield against the poor management. It is a good environment for learning multi-tasking and high-volume customer service, but the personal cost is far too high for the wage provided.
Cons
The work environment is defined by systemic bullying and a complete lack of basic employee protections. During my tenure, I experienced persistent harassment and a hostile atmosphere that management not only ignored but seemed to facilitate. Leadership frequently protected known bullies rather than supporting the staff members who were actually keeping the store operational. Most disturbingly, there is a proximity between management and individuals with known histories of predatory behavior, which creates an unsafe and deeply uncomfortable environment for everyone on shift. The physical working conditions are equally grueling and bordering on inhumane. We were forced to operate in extreme weather conditions from freezing winter temperatures to severe summer heat with inadequate equipment or climate control. Leadership shows a total disregard for the physical well-being of the staff, prioritizing speed and output over basic safety and health standards. There is no accountability for those in power, and the "culture" they promote is a front for a lack of professional boundaries and ethics. The management structure is fundamentally broken. Communication is handled through a lens of favoritism, and the hierarchy is used as a tool for exclusion rather than support. I witnessed qualified, hardworking professionals being pushed out or targeted for termination while toxic individuals were retained and protected. The lack of professional distance between upper management and store-level leadership results in a "clique" mentality where harassment is normalized and reporting it only leads to further retaliation.
