Pros

Lots of therapy benefits, cool colleagues, above average pay and opportunities for OT. and helping people while also challenging yourself can feel like a rewarding career.

Cons

Why did I leave if I found the career rewarding you may wonder? Well let me tell you: after nearly 10 years at E-Comm some things became very apparent to me, which I couldn't ignore anymore: - The work culture is incredibly toxic. "Leadership" treats you like a number more than a human, micromanages, and might even bully you. If you or your coworkers try to bring up your concerns you will be labeled problematic and "whiney". and yes, this is the actual word my supervisor's boss used! - Racism. It's deeply rooted in policing of course. E-Comm participates in DEI initiatives, but they don't address the systemic barriers or racism that happens in the workplace. Their efforts are performative at best, harmful at worst. - The HR team calls themselves "People and Culture" and that's only the right name for them if they're describing what they don't support. - People like you and me find ourselves in these jobs because we really care about helping and making a difference. E-Comm knows and exploits that. They will take everything they can from you. All this to say it isn't worth it. There are many fulfilling jobs out there, and while this could be one the factors around the actual job make it a horrible work experience. Find something else that fills your cup while also maintaining your mental health. It's ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ not ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ worth ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

We are disappointed to read this feedback, as creating a respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace is a priority for us and something we continue to invest in thoughtfully and deliberately. Our organization is made up of a diverse workforce, and we are proud of the multicultural environment we have built and continue to strengthen. We recognize that inclusion, respect, and psychological safety require ongoing effort, which is why we continue to invest in initiatives and supports designed to meet the evolving needs of our people. All leaders across the organization are expected to uphold our standards of respectful conduct and have completed mandatory Respect in the Workplace training. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, discrimination, or any behaviour that is inconsistent with our values. Our People & Culture team is committed to supporting both employees and leaders and to ensuring workplace concerns are addressed through established and confidential processes. Employees have access to multiple avenues for raising concerns, including their leaders, union representatives, People & Culture, and confidential reporting channels, and concerns are reviewed in accordance with our policies. We also recognize that fostering an inclusive workplace requires more than policies or initiatives alone. We continue to review our practices, training, and leadership expectations to strengthen our culture, address systemic barriers, and ensure employees feel safe raising concerns and sharing different perspectives. While we acknowledge that individual experiences can differ, the concerns described here do not reflect the culture we are actively working to build and sustain. We remain committed to continuous improvement and to ensuring employees feel heard, supported, and treated with dignity. We would welcome the opportunity to better understand the issues raised. If you would like to discuss your experience further, we encourage you to contact our People & Culture team directly.
