Best cram school I worked for in Taiwan during my eight years there. - Head Foreign Teacher Elite Language Institute Employee Review

Pros

Great staff and wonderful Taiwanese collegues/teachers. Understanding owner that will work with you and be fair and not leave you feeling exploited as many other "buxibans" in Taiwan might.

Cons

You must be ready to work at all three branches if you are a "foreign" teacher. You may be asked to "teach on the fly" only learning of your lessons just before class but if you have familiarized yourself with the materials you should be okay.

Pros

Casual dress, adult students, and great coworkers mean that I go home happy at the end of the day, even when I'm exhausted. This school is undergoing a lot of positive changes right now and it is exciting to be a part of them.

Cons

Teachers are hired as contractors with no benefits, and the pay starts kind of low. However, raises are common, and come in $1.00/hour increments.

Pros

1. Very little pressure or supervision if you are a good teacher and popular with students. 2. Evening classes for non-morning people like myself.

Cons

1. Salary isn't the worst but not the greatest either. I have worked here for a number of years but they have only given me two insignificant raises that barely matched inflation (typical of Taiwan). 2. Terrible textbooks, but I have also been given the freedom to prepare my own materials but that takes up time which is unpaid.
