Pros

+ If you are lucky and have a sensible boss (which there isn't too many at Ember), your life work balance can be ok + They are quite flexible around your needs as long as it doesn't affect a project or a client

Cons

- The leadership is utterly incompetent - People are treated very differently depending on who they report to - Ember directors will sell anything at any price in any way they can to make money and then leave it for the project team to figure out how to deliver - Huge amount of drama and games played

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad that overall you have a positive outlook and feel that you’ve had a good work/life balance here, despite the concerns you’ve raised. We’re naturally interested in these, and would love to hear more about the issues you’ve experienced; if there’s a way you’d be comfortable to discuss them with a manager, that would be of real value to us (and hopefully to you). We know that in any organisation there are some conflicts, some difficult personal relationships and some dissatisfaction with management. In general, we’re happy that we don’t encounter many of these at Ember. But we’re not resting on our laurels; we’re constantly reviewing processes, particularly around project delivery, and our business structure – where becoming part of the Davies Group has definitely helped. We also provide ongoing leadership training to all managers; and through team days, regular meetings and emails, we aim to strengthen company communication and make things as transparent as possible. We appreciate the stresses of the consulting world can be challenging at times and that can lead to moments of drama – that pass very quickly. What we do consistently see is overwhelmingly positive client feedback for the hard work of our employees – something which we are extremely grateful for.

Pros

People in general were nice. And some of the projects and clients were interesting and good to work for.

Cons

It's not a place for real consultants. The few real management consultants that were hired didn't last long, and staff turnover is huge (25-30% in the period that I was there). There is a lack of strategic direction and a need for strong leadership that can make tough, consistent decisions. There was too much focus on getting things sold at any cost (unrealistic timelines / large discounts), leaving the project lead with the hard task to deliver on budget and often without the resources and/or resources with the right skills. People are not held accountable, with mediocre work and wrong behaviours not being addressed. It is therefore no surprise that the old nucleus of non-consultants is still there whilst more recent hires have looked elsewhere after a short lifespan at the firm.

Thank you for your feedback and review. The recent success of Ember is a reflection of the hard -work, strong credentials and commitment from our consultants, leading to a 100% client satisfaction score. We are sorry to hear that you have had a slightly different experience of Ember. Over the last couple of years, we have been growing fast and – as well as providing a range of interesting projects – that has inevitably led to staff turnover. Of course, we’d love to keep all the talented individuals who have joined us, but we recognise that some people will also want to follow new opportunities. We’re constantly working to improve career progression within the business, particularly as we continue to grow, and to enhance all aspects of our processes and project management.

Pros

+ They pay bonuses on time as they have promised (and if the company is doing financially well as it has lately done) + Flexible with working arrangements/life balance when they can + Good for average consultants as they can feel like stars at Ember

Cons

- Incompetent senior management who only care about revenues - No people or leadership skills in the management level - Only career opportunities on the lower levels - A lot talk about values but the managers do not live up to the Ember values so there's no point

Thank you for your review of the company. We understand that there is more to life than just work, so we appreciate and promote the reality that all our employees deserve a healthy work-life/balance. As such, we strive to keep our working arrangements flexible and it’s great to hear that you’ve benefited from this. We’re also proud of our career development opportunities, particularly but not exclusively at more junior levels. We’re concerned by your observations about the management style and standards. It’s not something we hear often, but we know how important it is for managers at all levels to set the standards. That’s something we emphasise in our leadership and management training and we believe – based on the full range of feedback we gather – that most of the time we are getting it right. But feedback like yours helps us reflect on what we do and how we do it.
