Pros

- The R&D department is a joy to work in. - Everyone has their own individual projects, but are always willing to offer advice or guidance to others. - My direct supervisor is a pleasure to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable and excellent at managing the department. - The synthesis lab area was newly remodeled - Safety is of extreme importance to Emerald Performance Materials and we are always striving to improve. - The company continues to grow and the president, Ed Gotch, is very efficient and an impeccable leader.

Cons

- Upper management is often overly optimistic with project timelines. - Some of the projects are a bit repetitive in the development side of the research (I personally love optimizing reactions, but I know that synthesizing new compounds in inventive ways is very attractive to many people). - The budget is somewhat limited so we don't have the latest instrumentation, but the ones we do have are well maintained.

Pros

It is a very laid back atmosphere if you are non-union, can show up 30 minutes late or leave 30 minutes early and they rarely care about it or question. They had a 2nd shift worker work 2 hours a day, get paid for 8 hours, for over a month before they fired them.

Cons

Production is very biased towards females; so if you are female be prepared to be fast tracked, if not prepare to be let go after 80 days (90 day probation period). The technical building is extremely disorganized, has no concept of timelines or priorities, and very narrowed sighted with their way or no way for projects. The buildings are all old and falling apart, all the equipment is old and falling apart, you get no money to buy new you get money to apply a Band-Aid. We've had rubber bands and duct tape holding pipes together for 2 months due to not able to buy more pipe until the new year.
