Pros
Health insurance benefits are outstanding, as is the match for pension plan contributions. I found university personnel to be responsive, and the tuition waiver program is excellent for qualifying children.
Cons
It increasingly operates on a top-down authority structure. Actions are taken without forewarning, full discussion or concern for the employee. It is driven by the medical and other health sciences schools and centers. Profit-center mentality drives much of its decision-making. Not much effort is made to expand the university mission. While loyalty is expected it is not reciprocated. Positive feedback is slow in coming, and there is no effective mentorship program outside the comprehensive program for medical residents.
