Pros

The children are amazing and ready to learn

Cons

Poor staff communication on a lot of things. As a neurodivergent there were lots of last minute things such as co-workers not being in, people being added into classes they shouldn’t be, out with the contract things being changed like not getting paid for being sick when you genuinely were or how much gets deducted is not mentioned. If you are wanting a reference you won’t get one. A lot of people would use this year abroad to boost cv or chances of getting into university or future employment a reference is needed for most - it won’t be provided along with the bonus of completing your contract (which is managers discretion). If thinking about this job take into consideration things you will need from them and question as a lot of the time it is company or managers discretion which means essentially your not getting it. Well-being of staff and children are dismissed and it’s a get on with it culture and if you decide it isn’t for you then have a spare money as it is expected to pay to get out of your If your mental health is not great expect it to get worse there is no consideration or support for this within the company.

Pros

I had a positive experience working at Excel. The atmosphere was friendly and supportive, and I appreciated the autonomy I had in creating lesson plans. The students were a joy to work with and made my time there very rewarding.

Cons

However, there was a downside to the workplace culture with occasional gossip among staff members. While I don't believe management was directly responsible for this, I do think greater supervision could help in curbing this behaviour. There were also some teachers who didn't take their roles seriously, which was disappointing
