Bad place to work if you are young, commercially minded, want to grow, and add value. - Risk Analyst Eni Spa Employee Review

Pros

Eni Trading & Shipping (ETS) trades a range of products: gas, power, emissions, LNG, crude, and refined product. Combined with a flat structure you can learn a lot about the oil and gas industry e.g. business strategies, products, hedging etc.

Cons

Obscene amount of nepotism and corruption at the very top. The company is obsessed with controls, but is perfectly happy to bypass these when it suits the interests of senior management. ETS is not commercially minded at all, instead is rather a "jolly" for Italians on an expat package to enjoy the bright lights of London. Management are happy to focus on pointless data projects that go no where, discussing things in circles with zero accountability, as it makes it look like they are putting in place "controls". ETS is not really even a trading company, it is a supply company, trying to optimise some of Eni's assets. The company has no profit incentives, and will gladly throw money down the toilet under the misguided orders of senior management who are underqualified, and, or, without relevant experience, just to follow "process" with no thought to changing processes or controls to support the business within acceptable risk appetite. No concept of profit and loss and instead focused on compliance and controls that give the appearance that all is alright, rather than addressing the root causes of endemic impunity and corruption that brought the company two publicly humiliating scandals. Management are not interested in ensuring a viable, sustainable, and profitable company that can survive in the long-term, instead they just want to enrich themselves until their term is up, to be replaced by someone from the head office in Milan who does the same.
