As an intern, I was lucky enough to be placed with a team of people who were truly committed to ensuring that I learned the ins and outs of nonprofit operations and they created an environment in which I was comfortable asking questions. I received clear and prompt communication from everyone at the organization. They get everyone involved with the important and honorable work that they coordinate.
Cons
Some aspects of the finance and operations work can be disorganized at times, but in general this is not a problem.
Senior level leadership does not care about you. You will not be compensated fairly and you will have no transparent mechanism to advocate for yourself. You will lack opportunities for growth. Senior level leadership only cares about themselves and their own accomplishments. There is no consistent organizational strategy, just made up strategies to get grant money and a bunch individuals stroking their own egos.
