Pros

Great people, beautiful offices (when we could go to them). Awesome remote work policy, fun and supportive environment. Competitive pay. A compelling mission and sense of community.

Cons

* Bad benefits. If you're a remote employee, be sure to check coverage in your area before accepting your offer. * Ambiguity, chaotic atmosphere and inexperienced leadership. * A LOT of young, first time engineers. It's great that Etsy gives that opportunity to people but also means there's a real lack of experienced people to provide mentorship. * Didn't feel data driven, that aspect seems to be highly team specific. * Didn't feel there was anywhere to move up, probably depends on your role.

We appreciate you providing this feedback, though we’re disappointed to hear some of it. 2020 has been a year of discovery in respect to optimal remote benefits: we’re glad we provided the right balance in the way of remote environment, policies and pay, but it sounds like remote coverage benefits are an area at which we need to examine more closely. Our plan is national, offering flexibility for both in-network and out-of network care coverage, and we offer several benefits that have virtual offerings for both medical and mental health. We also work on sending internal Benefit surveys to our employees to look for continued feedback from them. We’re proud to have been able to provide employment opportunities to engineers spanning a wide range of prior experience levels and we continue to invest in both employee and management development. We already see those investments yielding access to ideal mobility opportunities and development. We’ll continue to evolve!

Pros

Empathetic, smart people in a lot places.

Cons

Senior leadership has changed alot in the years since the pandemic highs and it's not quite stabilized. Overvalued executors and undervalued those with high EQ and people leadership. Promoted executors into senior roles and then they floundered and exited, or worse they chased away better potential fits for those roles who were overlooked.

Pros

Etsy is, by far, my favorite company. From the outside, it has the characteristics of big tech —a big NYC office, a household name, and it's publicly traded. However, from the inside, it retains the soul of a startup. Collaboration is constant, office politics are minimal, and there’s a genuine community—people actually eat lunch together in the Brooklyn office and get together. I’ve been here for a year now, and I usually wait for that milestone before giving a review, I can confidently say I’d love to stay here for a long time. During my interview process, I noticed that many Etsy Data Scientists have tenures exceeding five years, which I think speaks volume. While the compensation might not reach Meta or Google levels, the work-life balance, mission, and culture are unmatched. The new CEO is also fantastic; her expertise is evident, and for the first time, I am actually aligned with the company's strategy, instead of just rolling my eyes the whole time at the all hands. As we continue to 'Keep Commerce Human,' Etsy is perfectly positioned to offer the human connection that is so often lost in the age of AI and mass production.

Cons

Nothing I can think of really.
