Pros

The location is nice, if you don't consider how much time you are stuck in traffic (over an hour if you are in one of the closer suburbs) or how much you pay for parking.

Cons

Do not work here! Even if you are desperate and have been looking for months, do not apply and definitely do not accept a job offer. It will just lead to more job hunting in the future. But if you are just too desperate, accept the job offer, add it to your resume and take a 6 months break from applying and then start applying again. For any chance of being happy (or at least somewhat happy) at EDI, work for support services (accountants, web developers, etc) or for a client where the COO is the consulting partner. Those that work in these positions have the option to work remotely for part of the week and have a lot more freedom on their hours. Do NOT work for a client where the female partners are the Executive Director. These clients have a high turnover rate and you’ll soon realize why. Know that when they hire you, they’ll deliberately start you at a lower salary just so that they can give you a large raise after the first year. This is to make you think that you’re doing well, an asset to the team, and make you confirm that working at EDI is a good decision. However, EDI’s model is against everything they teach about keeping the historical knowledge at a company. Staff in non-executive director or director positions are disposable because they can get someone just out of college to take your position for a lower salary than you had left at. Know that they will tell you that you are capped out on your salary within 3-4 years, that it’s actually a lot harder to switch clients than what it should be, that you will be expected to work over 37.5 hours and they will frequently ask this of you even if you are getting the work done that actually needs to be, that part of the job is saying sorry for everyone else’s mistakes, which happens weekly, and that paying 100% of your health benefits is actually not that well of a benefit since other companies will pay you a much higher salary. Lastly, know that they are NOT family friendly. Although they may remember your kid’s names or be concerned that you might have to leave the company for a family reason, when crap hits the fan and you need EDI to take second to a personal/family problem, they will not accept it.

Pros

EDI employs staff to work directly with medical/research non-profits, giving employees the incredible opportunity to help its clients realize their vision. Culture is very supportive - EDI supports professional development and membership in related organizations for its employees to help them continually grow and say on top of trends. They provide pathways for staff to be promoted and grow within the company. They offer a variety of opportunities from meetings logistics to committee management to meeting planning to medical writing and more. I've worked there for over 15 years and have had an incredible experience with the company as well as with the volunteers we serve.

Cons

No cons currently. Over the last 15+ years that I've been here, EDI has worked hard to support employees and respond to suggestions for improvement. For example, most positions are able to work remotely up to 3 days a week. EDI is also continuously updating technologies and systems to allow staff to efficiently do their work.
