Pros

The salary is a little higher for licensed K-12 educators.

Cons

Americans don’t stay longer than they have to. They leave as soon as they see what is happening here. You are unable to transfer money out of the country and you are unable to get US dollars or any other currency. A Chinese citizen must get dollars for you or transfer money out of the country. You are used as an American teaching Demo classes and teaching middle school. They just want parents to pay high fees, 10,000 USD, and their program is deficient in so many ways. It’s all about sales. They want you to teach from scripts that are pieced together lesson plans from ESL books that aren’t coherent in any way, they’re not educationally meaningful and far too difficult for the kids. Students are 2 to 4 grade levels behind. Their staff is too young and immature. No one has a background in education, they are very controlling and disorganized. Management’s and staff’s English skills are intermediate at best. One of the worst aspects of working here is they want you to teach them everything you know, and then you are useless to them. They treat you with contempt, you are sidelined and they’re so disrespectful. Another aspect that is troubling is the copyright infringement. They download copyrighted materials and disseminate them. You are called a foreign teacher. You don’t have a name. They’re xenophobic. They’re racist. There is no insurance and no benefits. This is one of the worst, unprofessional and disrespectful companies I have worked for. The Chinese have poor manners, no integrity or honor, and they’re despicable. STAY AWAY!

Pros

Extremely easy workload. If you have a decent class with intelligent kids you can really develop them well over the time you are, assuming you put the effort in, as there is no scrutiny of teachers there. They paid extremely well for the level of work required. You have quite a lot of flexibility in how you teach if you ignore the very badly designed curriculum plans. HR are slow and unresponsive but eventually they did well by me.

Cons

By the end there was virtually zero management in our campus due to the dire financial situation. For the tuition fee the parents pay, the standards are extremely low, almost non existent. Most local teachers were lazy and did not put much effort in. Usually you would say that about the foreigners, but here the locals wouldn't put any effort in with the kids, always spending time on their phones and putting minimal effort into their lessons. Towards the end the financial situation was bad and knowing if you would get paid on time became unreliable.
