The benefits are stellar! 401k with a 6% match combined with a fully funded pension! Great family leave options (if you can withstand the shame of using them). On par vacation terms.

Cons

You aren’t valued as a person, or really thought of as a person at FM Global. In fact the current slogan is “Be FM Global”. Catch that? Not be yourself, or unique, or innovative, or even thoughtful; you are to be FM Global. Upper management thinks of us as totally and easily replaceable. But rather than remove the people they don’t care for, that make your life unpleasant till you quit. All this so they can run the narrative that they never terminate their people. Work here and you will work for the best and most capable commercial property carrier in the world. Be warned that you will lose your humanity if you choose to climb the ladder here. Managers actively make decisions strictly for the numbers without a care for those who will need to implement. They stand behind their worker bees like human shields all the while prodding them to deliver forced rate hikes to even the most loyal and loss-free companies. Senior management is quick to brag about the successes as their genius tactical maneuvers while simultaneously blaming the lowly staff for failures. If you want genuine mentorship and leadership you won’t find it here. If you like the look of footprints on your back as the company touts its monstrous capabilities globally, you will fit right in. You should know that you will do all this while making about 30% less than your equivalent at a competitor. See how good that combined ratio looks when you realize it was accomplished by fleecing your paycheck. Have an upcoming life event that will require you to take some time off? Congratulations! You won’t hear that much at FM Global. Your life accomplishments are a burden to the company that will affect your promotions, raises, and relative worth in the office. Your honeymoon, birth of your child, and vacations are huge issues that managers begrudging accept you may take. They will guilt you constantly for taking time off work and hound you incessantly while you are gone from the office. Be ready for encouragement to work remotely while you are gone. You can never really turn off FM Global. Start here for the clout but leave here to be treated humanely.

Pros

* Great business model at the foundation * Solid compensation program: Base salary + bonus * Sustained high profitability over the long term * Stable employement * Pension Plan

Cons

* Extremely hierarchical and regimented * Promotions based on favortism rather than true merit. Employees are precategorized and stigmatized on their ability for future career progression. * Extremely focused on metrics and internal objectives. This leads to box checking, cutting corners and bending rules to meet the numbers. * Extremely heavy workload. No work-life balance. * Management doesn't really incorporate employee feedback; they pretend to to check a box. * Quality of job suffers to keep up with quantity. Everything is becoming data driven and the data is often wrong. Enormous pressure to hit a button and accept at face value whatever the system spews out. * Our CEO builds fancy gold plated office buildings that aren't needed and pulled the plug on hybrid work to justify the investment in the real estate.
