Pros
I have been impressed with how they have responded to COVID and supporting working parents (as a parent of young children myself) as well as protests and social activism that many of the employees are passionate about and participate in outside of work. You are able to have an incredible amount of work life balance which in turn allows me to feel refreshed and motivated to give my best during work hours. Managers are kind and understanding and it is the first company I feel it’s not only ok to bring valid complaints and concerns but feel there will be concrete follow ups to address all the pain points. There’s also plenty of encouragement to move around in the company sometimes to entirely different disciplines (I.e. finance > engineering)
Cons
Everyone knows there are growing pains as “start up” moves to scale and become more of a proper enterprise environment and there is a lot of work to be done. There are some long time employees that are influential that seem resistant to changing the status quo but I’m hopeful as new employees continue to join from larger tech companies like google/fb/etc they help flatiron realize that its a worthy investment at this point to confront a lot of legacy tech debt and hack-y processes.
