Pros
Hours are good and you will meet cool co-workers.
Cons
The President is a second generation owner that inherited the business from the founders (Mom & Dad) and sets the tone for the entire company. Unfortunately, he does not have the passion, drive or business acumen to grow the business as demonstrated by the performance of the company over the past 17 years.
Leadership is described as “micromanaging procrastination”. Hands in everything and zero execution. Talk, talk, talk about the same ideas for years and never institute changes. Hiring a recruiter, sales manager, and more sales people will not magically increase sales. It only creates more employees that share the same issues; toxic culture, zero growth opportunity and an unmotivated team.
Yes, the business was founded in 1971 and maintains the same business model since its inception. Inside sales make outbound calls from the same list of contacts for years. The industry and emerging technology is making this company obsolete and desperately trying to survive in their industry.
I wasted a lot of time waiting for change to happen, but the President does not make the changes necessary to grow the business. Knee-jerk reactions, temper tantrums, finger pointing and a toxic culture is the daily grind within the company. Don’t make the same mistake I did and believe someone can change after running the business for 17 years. You will regret taking the position shortly after starting.
