Pros

- Great pay for publishing - Really amazing authors and books - Brilliant coworkers who understand that you're in an impossible position - Great internal system that helps publicists optimize their campaigns - Were kind enough to pay me until the end of the month after getting laid off and

Cons

Where to begin? I've worked at agencies and in-house and genuinely thought that this company would be somewhat normal. Before you take a job here, make sure you have money set aside and other potential job opportunities/connections. Protect yourself first. - I was asked to be on a call before I officially started the job (red flag) - They wouldn't hire me until certain projects came through (red flag) - One week in there was an email circulated that someone at the company was no longer there because they weren't "a good fit" (red flag) - People at the company were overtly relieved when I joined because they were overworked - Had one day onboarding, with a few zoom calls to go over protocols and documents - Weird culture of fear amongst coworkers that no one feels comfortable going into - The owner doesn't trust his employees pitches - taking days and weeks senselessly revising them. - After the first day, I was thrown into a project and calls with no time to go over the book and strategy - Gave me difficult books to work on and were shocked when results weren't immediate. Anyone in publicity knows that it's not an overnight process. - Completely unrealistic expectations of employees because the amount they charge authors - Insurance/benefits wouldn't kick in until after a month (red flag) - No learning curve. At. All. Laid off in less than a month

Pros

Top tier clients and learning environment that will bring out your best so you grow to your full potential and keep honing your craft as a publicist even when you thought you knew it all. You will never stagnate since there's always a new fascinating client. Very supportive team dedicated to excellence and helping each other. Limits on work are set to protect work life balance. Strong mentors and role models on the team to learn from.

Cons

The workload is very manageable and protected by management, but you do need to dedicate yourself to excellence on the job and performing at your best.
