Pros
Chosing your own projects, tailoring your contracts to fit your needs, being a part of every aspect of the project's development. You learn how to rely on yourself for a show's success or failure.
Cons
This type of work can be lonely; there is no constant staff, unless you rent community offices. You must often find your salary, by pitching the project for funding, while taking deferred & back-end fees. Taxes are complicated. You are responsible for your insurance and expenses. Mentors are also hard to find, qualifying for the PGA is a good strategy, but difficult.
