Pros
Meeting interesting people from all over the world who are passionate about making sustainable, community-based change in their communities. They are inspiring and kind! The work that Future Generations Graduate School is doing is important, and it is great to meet the people around the world who have been affected. Getting to know everyone in the office -- there aren't many employees, so everyone knows each other. Getting to experience the intimate details of what helps an NGO run -- because it is so small, everyone helps with everything and gets a wide range of knowledge in terms of what is needed to run Future Generations.
Cons
Prone to sudden change. As a small organization, Future Generations is sustained by donors and is not yet self-sustaining by its programs. That has meant that in times of many projects with grant money, people are hired temporarily but not permanently, and in times of little funds, budget cuts have caused long-term employees to lose their jobs with very little advance notice. Management is not stable. The organization has gone through many changes in leadership over the course of its lifetime and is still currently in a shaky state when it comes to finding and maintaining a healthy leadership balance.
