Disorganized, No Opportunities for Growth - CONTRACTOR/PROJECT MANAGER FutureDerm Employee Review

Pros

Flexible schedules and fun projects

Cons

Dysfunctional, lack of training, poor communication, no policy or procedures. Everyone is making things up as they go along, and have no formal training. There is no HR department to report concerns because the "management" are all members of the CEOs family. There are zero benefits for full-time employees. No health insurance, vision or dental, transportation, retirement. Nothing. You're basically just a contractor who is loaned a yearly salary and if you don't get enough projects or clients to work with throughout the year you have to pay a portion of it back because of a draw system that has been established.

We are pleased to announce we hired a full-time Operations Manager in January 2020. The Operations Manager is working with all members of the FutureDerm Team to ensure that there is appropriate training, improved communications, and optimized policies and procedures for the entire staff. However, there were already many procedures in place before that time, including Sales Training, Graphic Design Training, and Project Manager Training, and Project Manager-guided assignment sheets, analytics tracking, workflow tracking, payroll submissions, and customer/product code guides. The assertion that the "management" are all members of a family is inaccurate. Ray is the Financial Manager, but is the only relative of the CEO (me) on the management team. The assertion that anyone has to "pay back" a dime of their salary or are "loaned" payment is also 100% inaccurate. The draw system is primarily established so that employees know if they are earning more than their salary with their workload, so they can receive additional pay. If an employee is earning less than their salary, the draw system also allows them to know this, so they can be empowered to ask for additional work from the Project Managers and the Operations Manager. But they do not have to "pay back" ANY of their salary, ever. Lastly, there is ample room for growth at the company. This is proven by our existing staff. Most team members start as part-time employees or contractors, and work their way up with additional workload and responsibilities, and become full-time employees (if they so wish to do so) as the company grows. All but one of our current full-time employees started this way, and this system has worked well for our company. I feel bad that you are upset about your time with us. I personally tried to work with you one-on-one, many times. I wish things would've worked out. I much rather would've asked you to meet with me in-person and discuss, rather than address these issues publicly on Glassdoor, but it is what it is. Please refrain from making false statements in the future.

Pros

There were one or two helpful people there.

Cons

Disorganized, often lazy people who constantly make excuses for work not being done. Many employees were rarely at the office for a full work day, if they show up at all.

Thank you for your feedback. In the past two years, we have invested a lot into improving company policies that have been an issue in the past, such as allowing full-time writers and designers to create their own hours, which were often in the wee hours of the morning (and frustrating those who were required to be in the office during daytime hours, as we found out from feedback like yours). We now have set office hours for everyone, as you said, and flexibility outside of those hours. Our organization has also greatly improved, as we now have six project managers, a streamlined workflow, assignment verification, and quality control processes. That said, while we are much better than we were two years ago, we continue to grow quite fast, and feedback from our team members helps us keep it together as we grow.
