Pros

General Dynamics is somewhat insulated from layoffs than other companies in different industries. There is plenty of flexibility and autonomy given to employees. Dealing with customer requirements is difficult at times. There can be times where I am extremely bored and unchallenged. I would like a more fast paced environment to work in that challenged me more. The people here are really nice great. People here are not necessarrily top talent, but are helpful and nice. Overall the 9/80 schedule is tremendously nice. Overall not the most challenging work environment. Also, the educational opportunities are really good, they will pay for schooling for most employees.

Cons

There is little incentive other than star awards to do more than your job function. The amount of wasted effort can be frustrating. Benefits have been cut more than two times in the past year. The management has a very egalitarian way of dealing with employees. It is not a compeditive work environment. The challenge of documenting requirements. Sometimes there is not enough accountability or work description of the work to be done. The number of people required to do the job we are doing is probably too many. Sometimes there is just pure apathy around the office. Other than that it is a pretty nice place to work.

Pros

GD-MS seems to win *ALOT* of proposals and contracts. There is always the next big thing at GD-MS.

Cons

Contractors 411: Typically, contracts terminated with no notice. Today will be your last day. Please wrap up your work. It was a very low-rate contract too. Made alot of sacrifices to be on this program. Culture resembled a human wood-chipper ala FARGO. Many senior engineers leaving en-mass. I was asked to take over the role of the engineer who left just prior to my arrival. I called it: I will be next. Good experience once in your life to go thru the human wood-chipper. Toughens you up. However, GD-MS is a great example of how it is that legacy aerospace companies are dying rapidly and startups will be the future in aerospace.
