Simple Job but Overworked and Degrading Management - Retail Sales Associate Going, Going, Gone Employee Review

Pros

Work is simple enough and easy to learn the basics. Quarterly bonuses were good and the teammate discount for GGG and DSG was nice. Standard minimum wage job most of the time.

Cons

TLDR: Overworked, underappreciated, no training, sexist management I applied for a part-time 25 hour/week position as I was in University and ended up spending 5 months doing 30-40 hour weeks, reminding them often that I really could not work that many hours. Nothing changed and I just had to suck it up and manage while taking 5 classes. Management never tended to listen to your wants for your schedule, and when you made a change to your availability it would turn into a debate and bargaining about the hours you worked. It was like you had to provide a Doctor's note just to change the shifts you worked. Often got guilt-tripped for not overworking myself as well and heard things like "You're the only one who can do it how will we get by without you?" There was also no formal training for how to actually do your job, and experienced workers are never asked to formally train the new hires leading to a lot of incomplete or incorrect work that has to be redone. Severely understaffed as well as 90% of workers being high-school/college students that would call out a lot and leave the remaining people on shift to scramble to do their work as well as their own. Management also was weirdly sexist? Not always actively, sometimes unconsciously but got increasingly more obvious the longer I stayed. Men were automatically expected to do less (because "that's just how boys are") so women workers were expected to do more to cover for them. The women were also severely underappreciated while men got raises for simple work. Men were relegated to Sales Support and Footwear while women were put in Cashiering and Apparel. They ignored any actual experience you had with any of these departments and just put you in one according to your gender (I'm a woman but I knew nothing about Apparel OR Footwear, I learned everything from being forced to work in Apparel, same would have happened if I was put in Footwear.)
