Not an "Apprenticeship" - Apprentice Goodspeed Opera House Employee Review

Pros

Full time work; contracts last 10 months, rather than just a summer season; hourly wage with overtime; several paid holidays

Cons

Goodspeed advertises their apprenticeship program as an opportunity for college grads to expand their training and perhaps move into a staff position with them. It's not. Apprentices are just stage crew, with very little opportunity to receive any training or assist in building shows. The "apprenticeship" program seems to just be a way for them to get away with paying crew significantly less than a stagehand's usual rate.

Pros

- it’s not super hard work- you mostly just have to tend to the patrons while getting to watch musicals :) - super understanding- i had to take a medical leave for the summer and my boss was very understanding and asked me to come back whenever i felt that i could.

Cons

- pay is minimum wage which is to be expected - it’s hard to get shifts sometimes, and finding someone to cover your shift if you cant make it was nearly impossible at times
