Pros
It’s a mission driven company and that mission is both ambitious and exciting. Being part of a mission where you are trying to advance science and humanity through solving intelligence is very inspiring. Thinking about it gives me energy and drives me to do my best every day. It’s a values based organisation and you see the values every day in how people behave and work. Kind is the one that really sticks out for me. It’s an unusual value for a company but you see it every day, in every aspect. It brings out the best in people.
Cons
There aren’t many. I’ve worked at many companies and not worked anywhere quite like DeepMind. The only thing I can think of is the pressure. With such an ambitious mission, it weighs on your mind, the responsibility you have to society. Always needing to do and be your best. It’s draining. The pressure isn’t from the company, it’s how you interpret it and put the pressure on yourself. There’s lots of support available to help you manage the pressure. Buts it’s an on going challenge.
