Pros

Nice people. Nice list. Not corporate.

Cons

Lower pay than elsewhere. But that's the tradeoff for not working at a big 5.

Pros

-The culture is a laid back atmosphere but people are so passionate about their books -learned a lot about rights and how books get licensed and sold to foreign publishers as well as audio publishers -Read manuscripts on submission and got to evaluate them

Cons

-you wear a lot of hats, which is overwhelming sometimes

Pros

I met a bunch of interesting and friendly people here. I definitely benefited from the mentorship offered by my boss, who had a few one on one meetings with me outside of the office to explicitly offer career advice and guidance, even though I worked less than 20 hours each week for a few months total. He even helped prep me for interviews for full time positions. Another editor took me out to lunch just to connect and get to know me; really great opportunities to develop a publishing network here. My job was temporary and highly independent, but everyone was supportive and professional about it.

Cons

I moved on because I wanted full time work and more pay, but that's just my career stage and qualms with book publishing in general. From what I've seen this is a great, very interesting publishing house.
