Cons
Workload is not always consistent for administrative staff. Day job is mostly based on inspection timetable and project plan, therefore there can be periods with very low work load and periods with very high work load. An advantage of this however is that you will often have a good idea of when you will be most busy and when you will have more down time for personal development and training.
Shared services. Both a pro and a con. Fully reliant on external service desk for all IT issues, so no in house IT staff, this can sometimes mean that getting a simple IT problem fixed can take more time than anticipated. HR is also mostly covered by another government department.
Due to the nature of the job work is heavily reliant on liaising with other government departments and external stakeholders. This often amounts to a lot of chasing via repeat emails and voicemails.
