Pros
No pros honestly. The travel pay was low for the level of stress, unsafe assignments, lack of support, and hostile treatment toward travelers.
Cons
I worked as a psych RN in 1 south and often floated to 8 west due to staffing shortages. Extremely toxic and hostile work environment toward travelers. Constantly ignored availability despite this being a PRN travel position where flexibility is expected. Repeatedly scheduled for 3 to 4 shifts after clearly communicating over and over that I could only work the required minimum 2 shifts. Unsafe assignments were common including multiple isolation patients, restraint/Code Gold patients, and first admissions all at once with little to no help. Favoritism toward permanent staff was obvious, management ignored concerns, and travelers were routinely treated poorly and taken advantage of despite low travel pay.
