Disorganization leading to lost potential - Teacher Harlem Hebrew Language Charter School Employee Review

Pros

The school has great amenities for teachers to use, and many co-workers are incredibly kind and ambitious, which leads to a supportive cohort in general. Furthermore, teachers tend to have some liberties in their lesson planning, helping educators find there own strengths in the classroom. Benefits are decent.

Cons

Leadership is absentee, and are rarely seen walking the halls, visiting classrooms outside of observations. As a result, teachers are often without support when major issues arise--such as fighting or bullying. The school administration pats itself on the back for believing in "restorative justice," but they don't actually practice this technique. Admin lets some students get a talking to, but there are rarely consequences for bad student behavior, such as fighting, shouting during class, or running about in the halls. In turn, staff morale is chronically low, staff turnover is exceedingly high, and students have little inspiration to seize their futures. And on the benefit side, while the school offers a 401k, it is through a horrendous broker. Seemingly they went with the cheapest company option possible.
