Pros
I worked as the microbiology lab technician, and this was my very first job out of college. I majored in microbiology and felt that I should gain some experience in microbiology, so I went for this position. I learned a good amount of skills from the various micro tests the company runs. Because I was the only microbiologist in the company, I gained the skill of working independently while occasionally being instructed by the lab director. I am not the most social person, but I didn't feel excluded in this company. There are occasional company lunches on holidays or as a thank you for working hard, and there are also birthday celebrations, so that's nice. The boss would check up on me often to make sure everything is okay and ask if there is anything I need.
Cons
Working alone in the department may lead to feeling under pressure, but the tasks are not too difficult, and things will be done as long as there is good time management.
