Pros

If you write enough click bate articles you can make adequate amount of money.

Cons

The management is horrendous. It’s three men who have no idea what they are doing. The owner is no where to be found. The guy right below him needs to step in but doesn’t and the managing editor is the worst employee I’ve ever seen. He has no idea what he is doing. He will say one thing and never respond and then say a different thing a week later. I’m pretty sure he’s just friends with the owner and that’s why he’s kept him so long. If you want to stay sane don’t work here.

Pros

I love this job. They pay you based on performance, so the ability to make money has no cap. If you're good at this type of work, you can make a LOT of money, many thousands of dollars per month, probably far more than most other online writing jobs. It's refreshing to be paid based on performance. The company and editors place high value on journalistic ethos, as many people running the company are former newspaper journalists, and they constantly urge quality and original content. They are a company that is constantly evolving, innovating, and growing. The hours are completely flexible, and you work from home. You get to pick the stories and topics that you are interested in and write about the most interesting stories in the world and country. The work is never boring and is often extremely interesting. You will learn SEO at a high-level and compete on stories with all of the top news organizations. The editors value autonomy and give contributors a lot of independence, while also providing feedback. The ability to select one's own stories mean you're always writing about what interests you most. I'll repeat: You can make a LOT of money here if you are good at this kind of work.

Cons

You have to be good at spotting breaking news trends, high energy, and immersed in your fields of interest to succeed here. This is hard, not easy, and the people who say they didn't make money probably just weren't able to master how online breaking news at this level works. You have to be sort of "on call" when big stories hit if you want to make a lot of money at this. This is not a low energy job. It can be a bit exhausting at times.

Pros

Spent a few years at Heavy. On boarding process was great, and by bosses/overseers were great. Key word here: WERE. Good experience for brand new sports journalists

Cons

About a year and a half into my tenure, new management and whatnot came in. They got rid of some of the good people at the company, and the good people they did keep would eventually jump ship months later. Avoid this company if you want to be paid appropriately. If you want experience, sure it's fine. But don't expect to be paid fairly. Last I heard they were paying writers $1 per 1000 article views and they did away with the monthly base fee.
