A good company - Tax Accountant Heidelberg Materials Employee Review

Pros

I've worked in the tax department at Lehigh Hanson for nearly 4 years. The work/life balance is good. I rarely work over 40 hours a week. The people make the company, I think, and in this company, the people are great. There is a push for regular inter-department meetings, which is a big benefit. When AP and accounting can sit down and work together, it's a big deal. Lehigh Hanson values new ideas and has a program for submitting ideas to a review board. Many of these ideas are approved and implemented. The company has a good training program. Employees are valued by management, something you don't always get in a company.

Cons

Lehigh Hanson is still very old school with working hours and vacation. Employees are expected to work normal business hours and working from home is frowned upon. Vacation starts at 2 weeks, and finally gets up to 17 days after 15 years of service.

Pros

Truly employee-focused culture — the company goes beyond words and puts real action behind employee well-being. Initiatives like Safety Week (offering flu vaccines and mobile mammograms), Payroll Day celebrations, and matched charitable donations make employees feel valued and supported. Long-standing tenure and history of success — Heidelberg Materials has been around for generations and continues to grow, adapt, and modernize. The stability of the company, combined with its ability to evolve with the times, makes it a place where you can build a career. Genuine teamwork — while everyone has their own role, collaboration is key. Departments support one another to reach shared goals, and there is a strong sense of unity. Leadership that listens and invests — management creates space for feedback and celebrates employee contributions, big and small. It feels like a company where every voice matters. Amazing people — colleagues are not only skilled at what they do but also supportive and collaborative. The environment is professional yet warm, making it a place you want to come to every day. Unique perks and benefits — from charitable matching to thoughtful employee appreciation gifts, there are so many “little things” that add up to a truly exceptional employee experience.

Cons

Honestly, none that I’ve personally experienced. Some may say the “traditional benefits” could be enhanced, but when you factor in all the additional perks, wellness offerings, and employee-focused programs, it’s clear the company is very intentional about supporting its workforce.
