Cons
Reason 1: When I first started waxing at Hello Sugar there were receptionists who were getting paid $15 an hour. By the 3rd month of my employment they let go all of the receptionists and made the waxers who were commission only do their reception work for free. They also expected us to do extra cleaning around the salon that the receptionists used to do, while not properly compensating us for it. We only got paid per client, not an hourly salary that compensated us for any extra work besides waxing. Reason 2: My 6th month of employment I was 7 1/2 months pregnant and I was supposed to take a client whose service would last 2 hours and 45 minutes. I didn’t think I could physically do so, so I called my doctor and was advised not to. I then went and got a doctors note stating I need to take a break and be able to eat or drink every hour. Management told me that if I need accommodations to let them know. The next day I was working by myself, waxing and reception. And they booked me solid from 8:30 am to 2 pm, with no breaks, not even a lunch break. I contacted management asking if anyone can come help me and I was met with “if you can’t do the bare minimum you will need to figure something else out.” I had a doctors note and was asking for accommodations that management offered just the day before. I don’t feel like my rights as a pregnant woman were protected, even with instructions from my doctor. I am currently looking into filing a lawsuit against this company for medical discrimination, leading to me being forced to quit for mine and my baby’s health.
