Pros

Benefits are excellent. The work of caregiving is meaningful. The branch staff tend to be great people.

Cons

Corporate philosophy doesn’t match the actions of state and area leadership. Offices tend to be understaffed by design and what positions there are tend to turnover often due to unrealistic job demands and terrible pay. Very little to no corporate support for offices missing key positions. Poor compensation outside of benefits. Vacations policy is liberal, but they are almost impossible to take and when they are, it’s almost impossible to not work during vacation. Unorganized at every level. Decisions are made without proper planning. Large initiatives are implemented without proper preparation or follow through. Too many politics. Favoritism is obvious. Good work is rewarded poorly or not at all. Very much a “do as I say not as I do” company. No career pathway for most; jobs tend to be dead end; don’t often hire from within because they can’t afford to lose staff already in place. Very little to no investment in career or personal development of staff. Numbers driven, although they say they are people driven. Do not look at the root issue of negative performance, just tell you to do better. Metrics for measuring are not properly applied to each branch; extenuating circumstances are not taken into account. Most leadership is too overworked to actually support the staff they supervise. When real issues or discontent is brought up to management, the question becomes about what you are doing wrong or whether you’re a team player, not where they can help. People who really want to do well are all eventually ground down by the overbearing atmosphere created by leadership. The workload is unmanageable. Period. “Successful” employees have to sacrifice a lot for the job and work 24/7 and it seems like the company is satisfied with turning the other way on that reality. To put it bluntly, they cannibalize their people - chew them up and spit them out. You will start off energetic and excited. Then you’ll get worn down and leave or get fired because you can’t meet the unrealistic expectations. The work becomes less about meaning and more about going through the motions. And as soon as your energy changes, their energy changes. You are no longer seen positively, and become an adversary. Instead of wanting to fix they problem, they would rather replace you. They run off good people constantly.
