Pros
Amazing mission and work with clients; co-workers are friendly and supportive. Great for highly self-motivated and self-directed individuals that don't need a lot of managerial support.
Cons
Management from board down is inadequate for the needs of the staff, organization, and clients. Communication is poor; tension is high between service providers and support staff and shelter staff. Management will not fight for their staff or stand up for them in director meetings. One director is passive aggressive to direct service providers and patronizing to their staff. Recommendations for improvements go unnoticed or there is a fear of retaliation if taken to the board. There is extreme tension between the organization and local law enforcement and ideas for improvements go unheard. There is a spirt of defeat among staff and apathy among managers. Staff are not managed well, so they are ridiculously busy or have gapping holes of free time. There is a belief that Hope Alliance is a stepping stone organization, so employees will start their careers here then move on, thus there isn't career mobility inside the organization or staff development or appreciation.
