Pros
It's a job - you can learn to deal with high and unrealistic demands for behavioral management. You can learn to live with students ruining their lives by pushing limits until they are so criminal-minded that they are arrested and placed in alternate, criminal minded campuses. It's a great job for a year as a TFA rookie. Otherwise, their business and political model allows them to ruthlessly take over other area school districts (like North Forest), but there is no: consciousness, dignity, heart, or soul at HISD.
Cons
Experienced teachers are abused and subjected to unconscionable demands and situations. Many teachers are assaulted and then said to be the problem that set off the student. Administrators pick at lesson plans, but only for teachers that make decent income. The grievance process is a kangaroo court: The principal decides he is right at step 1, even with a preponderance of evidence to the contrary. At the final step, the (hired by HISD) attorney mediator will decide, even with a preponderance of evidence to the contrary, that the teacher is wrong.
