A Toxic, Unprofessional Culture - Medical Affairs IPSEN Employee Review

Pros

Pros: Ipsen employs a large number of kind and dedicated professionals. Pay and benefits for full-time employees are generous. Large portfolio of assets and strong pipeline.

Cons

Extremely toxic work culture on the rare disease medical affairs side. Some of the management and leadership are outright dishonest and incompetent (Peter principle, anyone?). Few in management understand the rare disease therapeutics, diseases, and companies they aggressively acquire. Middle management readily throws team members lower in the hierarchy under the bus when executive and global leadership inquire about their failures to plan and execute. There is a consistent unwillingness on the management’s part to take responsibility and a “pass the buck” (downward, of course) mentality predominates. Very little sense that you’re on a team, that you’re valued, and that your work will be supported and (when appropriate) defended. Because of this, turnover is perpetual and they hemorrhage a lot of talent. Ipsen HR regularly grandstands about having a healthy, safe culture but it’s entirely empty rhetoric. Ask yourself why they are constantly posting the same jobs and unable to fill positions and what this signifies. Avoid.

Pros

Ipsen continues to offer a mission‑driven environment where teams are genuinely committed to improving outcomes for patients and society, and that sense of purpose shows up in the day‑to‑day culture. Collaboration across functions is strong, and there are meaningful opportunities to contribute to strategy, development, and cross‑functional problem‑solving. We have an amazing team filled with valuable talents.

Cons

The pace of change and evolving priorities can sometimes create ambiguity, and some processes still require tighter alignment to reduce friction and improve consistency. Development pathways and communication around long‑term strategy can feel uneven depending on the team. However, Ipsen remains a place where impact, collaboration, and purpose are real strengths, with room to continue strengthening operational clarity and consistency as the organization grows, which is an achievement.

Pros

Some nice colleagues. Good perks.

Cons

High leadership turnover and lack of transparency and direction. A few toxic individuals are running the show, promoting inexperienced employees at the expense of competent ones.
