Pros
As long as you at least put in some effort, albeit minimal, it’s VERY difficult to get fired Job security and benefits. If you’re not ambitious and do well in an outdated 100 year old oppressive culture, you’ll fit right in. Eventually all of the IRS will be telework. It could take 6 months to 50 years. Your guess is as good as theirs. They support diversity- as long as diversity means 3 women for each man, and you’re white (in specific locations). Can you spell? No problem.
Cons
Unless you’re on someone’s favorite list, it won’t matter how productive you are, you’ll get bumped for a move up by the managers favorite. If you’re not liked by your manager, the word of mouth will be incredibly hard to overcome. If you’re applying for CSR, you’ll come in as a seasonal. So, expect temporary layoffs and unemployment for what could be a few weeks, to a few months. No one knows when the layoffs will come, or how long they last. During filing season you’ll be on phones talking to pissed off taxpayers while you try to calm them down with your exceptional IRS training and unambiguous procedural manuals (known as IRM’s). Can I keep going?
