Budget option in a dying market - Mailroom Manager IST Management Employee Review

Pros

If you maintain some level of competency and show up to the job, you'll hold the job (unless IST loses the contract). HR and IT teams are fantastic.

Cons

Pay is NOT competitive. I was getting paid minimum wage to run a mailroom, work with the public's SSNs, and have primary admin access for some of the client's external vendors. At minimum wage. Insanity. Benefits are laughable, but maybe they have improved since 2023. Management is varying levels of clueless, and it starts at the top with the CEO. You will be subjected to various types of nonsense to hit arbitrary metrics that are in the contract. You will have an IST manager and a client manager, so you're rolling double to see if you get someone incredibly incompetent, and both are equally important. Your IST manager will NEVER take your side in any complaints your client manager has of you, so pray you roll well. Just a very strange company. You'll see what I mean before you work a day. (For example, they were paying me minimum wage ($16) to run an outsourced mailroom and wanted me to take professional headshots before I started. I ignored that request and they never mentioned it again]

Pros

Working at this company has been a genuinely positive experience. One of the biggest strengths is the excellent customer service we consistently deliver. The team goes above and beyond to ensure clients feel supported, heard, and valued, which has become a defining part of our culture. Our management team is another standout. They provide clear direction, communicate effectively, and foster an environment where employees feel empowered to grow. Their leadership style encourages collaboration, innovation, and accountability. What truly sets this company apart is the synergy between employees on all levels. Teamwork isn’t just encouraged — it’s natural. Colleagues support one another, share knowledge freely, and work together seamlessly to achieve common goals. This creates a workplace that feels both productive and genuinely enjoyable. Overall, it’s a company that values people, delivers quality, and cultivates a strong sense of unity.

Cons

While my overall experience at the company has been positive, there is one notable challenge that could possibly affect long‑term stability: the dependence on client contracts. If a major contract ends or a client’s needs shift, there is a certain degree of uncertainty. This reliance isn’t uncommon in our industry, but it does highlight the importance of building strong client relationships to provide more consistent long‑term stability.
