Pros

I have learned more that I could have ever imagined while working with some of the most dedicated, outstanding people. IU Health is a great place to learn.

Cons

Attendance policy. It is completely unreasonable. They call write-ups, occurances. If you miss one day of work, you are given an occurance or wite up. If you miss 3 non consecutive days of work within a rolling calendar year, you are on a written warning. If you miss 5, you are terminated. Now let me tell you something, it is COMPLETELY reasonable for anyone to miss 5 days of work within a year, even if you are childless. But if you have a child or children, it is next to impossible to not miss work on occasion. In order to keep my job, I have had to leave my 11 year old daughter while she was home with a 102 fever and go to work. I have missed her school day events including award shows and talent shows. My co-worker and I work while we are sick and contagious because we have no choice. My co-worker, just last week, was at work with a high fever (she's been with the company 9 years) because she knew she would be written up or given an occurance if she went home. She works with patients. Patient care is at risk. Last year, I witnessed a co-working vomit in her trash can at her desk over and over again. She was throwing up so much there was blood in her vomit. She did not leave work. Was she contagious? Who knows. Uniforms: Our front office staff hate their uniforms. They look like IndyGo bus drivers. It would be an easy thing to let employee's design their own. Fabric comfort and style should be priorities. Pay. Lower than most others. On a personal note, I was once given an occurance for being 7 minutes late for work. I was late because I was in the elevator in the Gateway building and it broke down. I was stuck in the elevator for over 20 minutes. A manager of my department was stuck with me. He did not get an occurance because managers are not given occurances. He could have confirmed I was stuck in the elevator but management does not care why you are late. Late = occurance. Period.
