Pros

An incredible mission with a focus on grower profitability, environmental sustainability, and consumer health. Indigo is mission-driven in a way I have not experienced before where the culture is grounded in an intense focus on the mission. Exceptional talent and incredible learning opportunities. On a daily basis I get to learn from smart people from a variety of disciplines who are willing to share their expertise as we work to a common goal. My team is invested in my success and that helps me accomplish a lot each quarter. Great perks like lunch at the office, fitness reimbursements, and a stocked kitchen. A willingness to try new things and experiment. This gives individuals the chance to learn a lot in a short period of time. As a result, time moves faster at Indigo and I've grown more here in nearly 1 year than I have in multiple years at previous companies.

Cons

The culture is still in development and at potential risk as we scale. It helps that our recruiting process is designed to help us enhance culture as we scale. However, with a culture so closely linked to an intense focus on our mission, and thus the work itself, there's an increased chance of burnout. People who love a fast-paced environment, seek to constantly add value and thrive in ambiguity will love it here. People looking for a more steady environment will have more difficulty adapting to the pace of Indigo. On a similar culture note, previous organizations I've worked in have offered more social opportunities and chances to connect informally with coworkers. Again, with the intense focus on mission, the "fun" of office life is often low on the priority list. The trade off is the opportunity for a company trying to change the world. Priorities change rapidly. It's not uncommon to invest time and effort in a project only to see priorities change and not bring that project to completion. This will stabilize as the organization matures.

Pros

Decent base salaries. Due to the company's structure and goal shifting, you get experience in a lot of different aspects of the company. Past non-negotiable goal milestones, there is some flexibility, you have the opportunity and freedom to make the job your own. Good work-life balance, and commendable company goals around sustainable ag etc. made working here stand out.

Cons

Raises and bonuses not given for several years due to company not reaching unattainable goals. Lots of turnaround from constant layoffs. During my time there, I had a new manager about every year. No clear goals, and when they are clear they constantly shift. It is hard to grow salary wise within the company, especially when money is tight. You will be able to get more responsibilities and learn new skills, but don't expect your pay to reflect this. Lots of financial mismanagement within the company causing current R&D funding and operations to be barely present.
