Pros

The best thing about Informed Solutions is that senior management and HR are willing to listen and respond to you personally and at length. Admittedly, this only in writing, after you've left a negative review on Glassdoor and not while you're actually working for them, but pot-a-to, pota-to. While I was at Informed, my manager only responded to what he agreed with beforehand and shredded my views on everything else.

Cons

I left Informed Solutions recently for another role and, looking back at the recent reviews, I thought I had to say something. The first thing is that calling anything you don't like the sound of "hateful" and "trolling" is not helping your cause. How would you deal with one of your employees that did the same every time that managers criticised their work (fairly or otherwise)? The second is that it doesn't take much effort to look through the reviews and spot patterns among both the positive and negative reviews. If anything, there is some reverse trolling going on here as quite a few of the positive reviews are light on detail and high on saccharine praise. The negative ones are usually higher on detail, more varied and actually sound genuine. The third is that - aside from the sniping about the micromanagement from middle management, a CEO who has curious notions of how to inspire and motivate people and a working environment where presenteeism and long hours are valued in and of themselves - there are genuinely very wrong things being done by Informed Solutions: on multiple occasions, staff have been promised things in interviews which never came about (like an SC clearance), staff (permanent and contract) are being given unreasonable deadlines and expected to work unpaid hours with no clear reward beyond keeping their jobs. Unsurprisingly, this has had a knock-on effect on staff retention - one project I worked on had a 100% turnover in developers within 4 months.

Thank you for your feedback and we agree that your review is neither hateful nor trolling, and are happy to respond to your comments in an equally thoughtful and respectful manner. Those of us at Informed like that our management team and People Services team spend a lot of time and effort on training, coaching and team building with us. Whilst your manager may not have agreed with, or been able to approve some of the requests that you made, in my experience, that situation is true of anyone that you work with, whether clients, managers or your own colleagues. The workplace mirrors life in general, including outside of work - people agree on certain things and not on others. That doesn’t mean that they haven’t listened to you. I’ve worked at Informed for 7 years and haven’t always agreed with my line manager, colleagues or clients and haven’t always been given what I asked for, however, I reflect and discuss openly with my manager. My experience is that our senior team always listens, are thoughtful, trusted and respected by our people and clients for their integrity, fairness and competence. As you will know from having worked here, everyone at Informed is busy and it takes effort and commitment for senior people to make time to coach and guide less experienced colleagues. Leaders make the time to offer feedback to their people purely to help them play to their strengths, be aware of areas for improvement and development, and to help them succeed in their jobs. We have a diverse workplace and everyone is asked to be open to and constructive about differences of opinion and we always take the time to discuss and explore alternatives. With regard to unpaid work and long hours – there is a clearly defined and articulated rewards scheme at Informed Solutions, which takes into consideration people’s effort and commitment to longer hours from time to time to meet deadlines on client and company initiatives. I and my other colleagues share a professional desire to work hard and achieve great things. The salary benchmarking process is fair, transparent and consistent, and we understand that we’re well paid, receive very good benefits and can be awarded generous bonuses when times are good. Our commitment to each other, our clients and doing challenging innovation work to a high standard is personally very satisfying and it has also seen Informed grow sustainably through the last 10 years. I don’t agree that there is a culture of ‘Presenteeism’; sometimes defined as showing up to work whether sick or not and not operating at normal levels of productivity. The career paths at Informed are centred around innovation and consultancy services and it’s made clear from the start (when people apply to join us) that we need to work alongside clients, alliance partners, other suppliers as well as our own team members. This means that we can’t work whatever hours we want, from wherever we want, because team working and collaboration are key professional requirements. That said, many staff take advantage of Informed’s flexible working arrangements including part time working, different start and end times, and working remotely when we have agreed work plans. This allows us appropriate personal flexibility whilst enabling us to be professional and collaborate properly with others. COVID-19 will undoubtedly bring other changes to the way we all work. Informed’s approach to flexibility is clearly successful because for the past seven weeks we’ve been working remotely in fully distributed teams and doing it very well. A commitment to great team working and everyone being flexible has enabled the entire company, every one of our alliance partners and every client to execute full remote working in a matter of days when government announced business lock-down. Finally, to anyone that doesn’t know us directly and is reading these reviews, Informed Solutions is a successful scale-up company (i.e. we’ve grown at over 20% year-on-year for the past five years). We’ve won many top industry awards, including the Queen’s Award for Innovation. In the current COVID-19 climate, every business is affected but all of us that work at Informed are proud and determined to support each other’s wellbeing and work together through these challenges. We understand that not everyone will agree with how the company operates because it can’t align with every different person’s views or needs. Our purpose, mission and management culture is clearly professional and very modern and I think that is evident in how everyone at Informed pulls together to do an amazing job on high stakes innovation projects; how we celebrate success and the good times; and how (especially now) we rally and double down to get through the tough times. Pros

The building is a lovely building One or two genuinely nice people

Cons

Even after being forced out in a deliberate and humiliating manner I still suffer from nightmares today. it's clear to see that the positive reviews are written by the CEO after seeing the negative ones. This is her style. I remember her reaction when she sent out the staff survey and was angry that people told the truth about what they thought of the company. You could not complete the staff employment survey anonymously, which gave her power. For me she felt threatened by young women and and if you were a female with children, your days were numbered. I dreaded any emails coming from the CEO. Imagine sitting at your desk, heart beating, stressed out as soon as received an email, fearful of of ridicule or criticism. and certain members of staff looked down on me because of my race and working class background. If you dare to speak out, you will suddenly find yourself being monitored for mistakes and then labelled as performing poorly and then put under investigation. The year I was there the CEO sacked 5 people on the spot, who were then thrown off the premises. The CEO would often rant at you, should you do something human, like make a mistake. At the time I was there the CEO was also HR. i spent days crying, miserable and alone. Even though it was years ago, the hurt and pain still remains, how the CEO and a particular employee nearly destroyed my life, In this company you will never get a second chance if you struggle or have any personal issues. They will tear you up.

We take all constructive feedback on board and are keen to look for ways to improve our workplace, so that we can attract and retain great talent. However, for this and similar reviews that are wholly untrue, hateful and trolling, our response is for the benefit of other readers. Given the very well publicised shortage of skills, it is obvious that people can chose the company that they work for and will quickly move onto another job, without much difficulty or drama, if unfairly treated. When we are required very occasionally to investigate and legitimately act on issues resulting from misconduct, we appreciate that this may result in retaliation and anonymous, negative posts on Glassdoor. In this particular case, we received from various concerned members of staff (not just one person, as is claimed in this review) reports of repeated instances of misconduct and also persisting under performance. These allegations were investigated and found to be true and significant. We understandably acted on this, doing so in a professional, respectful manner and as discretely as the challenging circumstances allowed because the person became verbally and physically abusive. We work hard to ensure that people enjoy working here and want to stay. We have a very multicultural and diverse workplace and foster a positive, inclusive environment where people feel respected, trusted, empowered and supported. The vast majority of people value and appreciate that, welcome the professional responsibility and opportunities offered, and can be entrusted with the flexibility and freedoms given to them. Informed consistently produces great work and wins so many prestigious awards because our people are motivated and inspired to learn, collaborate, problem solve and achieve together. On the company's website and Twitter feed, our people happily share their views and personal experiences about working at Informed, so please do look at those to help you form a balanced opinion. Pros

They didn't fire me during the COVID-19 crisis. I thought they might fire people as they need an excuse to do that.

Cons

The worth of an employee's effort is lost at a place like this as people are running around all day. When my workload became unbearable, I talked to my team leader to help reduce stress. Rather than helping me, he started listing the amount of work he has to do. It was quite disappointing.

Natalie Dunn, People Services As the responsible leader within our People Services team, I have full overview of the people joining and leaving the company. We’re a mid-sized business which means that we’re big enough to have the breadth of capabilities and resources to invest in upskilling, coaching and caring for our staff, whilst being small enough to get to know and treat our people as valued colleagues and individuals. In my view, this review is fake for two reasons. The first is based on the references to COVID and the timing that this person alleges to have left the company, because I know that no member of staff has been furloughed, made redundant or left for any COVID related reason. The second reason is that the company has diligently managed work priorities, individual workloads and staff wellbeing (using leading mental wellbeing triaging techniques) at daily team stand-ups and weekly meetings with their responsible director. Separately, People Services have called individual members of staff for relaxed, private chats whenever we sensed someone might be experiencing personal, home or work related problems. In these ways, we are checking-in with our people every single day to support their mental wellbeing and ensure they are coping with working remotely. No one has reported experiencing any significant issues, including any of our graduates and young professionals, and in particular there have been no problems with unsustainable workloads or people struggling with the work assigned to them. Since implementing full remote working, the company has gone to very considerable lengths to ensure that no one is isolated and it has never been left to the discretion of any individual team leader to make decisions about assigned priorities, workloads, personnel related issues or maintaining communications with team members. For all of the reasons outlined above, this post is in my opinion disingenuous. James Cruddas, Lead Technical Consultant Personally, I’m proud of the way that the company has come together as a whole to support each other and our clients through the challenges that COVID has bought us all. We’re a world class digital consultancy that has developed sophisticated digital work scheduling tools that enable all of our people to collaborate and support each other in an open, agile and adaptive way. These online tools have built-in safety features that alert us to and protect us from becoming overworked for lengthy periods of time. Don’t get me wrong, there are times when we are very busy – that’s when our daily team stand-ups and weekly director team catch-up meetings are used to re-balance the workloads, as well as renegotiate priorities and reschedule deadlines when necessary. Everyone is in the same boat, so both colleagues and clients have been very empathetic and supportive since COVID hit us. These online collaboration and work management tools, as well as the daily and weekly team catch-ups, enable us to plan, assign, monitor and report on peoples’ workloads and how they are coping. Alongside this, we’re offered a wide selection of excellent wellbeing initiatives e.g. guided meditations, fitness classes. We’re also assigned a buddy, so we can check-in with each other and there are a wide variety of personal development and wellbeing masterclasses on offer. These things were in place even before lockdown. Since lockdown, staff have been asked to suggest improvements and this resulted in a number of key wellbeing modules being quickly enhanced and refocused to better support full remote working and being delivered online. Everyone at Informed has valued and benefited from this support. If this post and review is genuine, I am very sorry you feel disappointed about your team leader and time at Informed. However, I cannot reconcile what you’ve said with the reality of 7+ years of working life at the company. We’re a medium sized business and most of us know each other even if we’ve not worked directly together, so it’s not like you can get completely lost within the company or nobody notices you, like you can within a huge corporation. For those reading this response that are thinking about joining us, I can personally tell you that you that my colleagues are great people and very smart, capable, supportive professionals. You can build a very rewarding career here, working at a growing international digital transformation consultancy that regularly wins leading industry awards. Please get in touch, and we can arrange for you to chat with me or any of the colleagues who actually work here. We’d be happy to explain what it’s like to experience Informed Solutions ‘in real life’.
