Pros

The people here are incredible. The volunteers are truly the hands and feet of this organization and the dedication and compassion they show the animals is inspiring. I count myself lucky to have been able to contribute for a small portion of time. Additionally, the unique knowledge I've gained is a life experience I am grateful for and I appreciate the time and care given by the staff towards my education in this field. For a unique internship experience, IBR definitely fulfilled my expectations.

Cons

There is not much difference between interns and some of the more resident volunteers. If you live in this area and have time to spare, I would recommend committing to a volunteer position and you will likely learn just as much (if you put in the time). I came from out of state, so this was not an option.

Pros

Hands on experience with a great group of people who all share passion for the environment and wildlife, specifically aquatic bird species. You see your hard work pay off when you are able to rehabilitate and release birds back into the wild.

Cons

Depending on the situation your schedule can be very sporadic and long hours, but that is the job of a wildlife rehabber.
