Pros

Industry-leading technology that is genuinely changing surgery. Strong brand recognition in robotic surgery and minimally invasive procedures. Unique exposure to the operating room and direct interaction with surgeons and hospital teams. High-performing culture with ambitious and capable peers. Long-term career potential and compensation can be strong for those who perform well.

Cons

The experience can vary significantly depending on the manager and territory team. When leadership and teammates are highly involved in training and development, the ramp can be manageable. When that support is limited, the role becomes much more difficult to navigate. (Ensure you have a competent manager and a supportive team. If not, you’ll be isolated and struggling, eventually facing criticism for your lack of performance. ) Performance expectations can escalate before many new hires feel fully confident in the role. The product already has very high market penetration in many hospitals, which makes it harder for newer team members to practice and develop their skills. A lot of time can be spent in the OR mainly observing or covering cases rather than actively getting hands-on experience.

Pros

Able to provide care and value to patients all the way through - and on 40 hours a week, for real, with a culture that healthily jobs out a lot of stress. Everyone I work with is competent and glad to be here.

Cons

The above is not true for every corner of the company, and some places have gotten harder to exist in. Hours can run long in some places.

Pros

The da Vinci is a powerful robotics platform and still unmatched by just about everything else in the market. With the product that great comes the experience and access to work with healthcare professionals and hospital systems at a level that is extremely valuable for a long career Medical Device. Also, the value you provide in the technical experience, the training pathway and the Surgeon learning curve to autonomy and the feeling of growing production is great when all the pieces fall into place.

Cons

If you're in an area that has good runway and they just need hands on deck with a supportive manager it's pretty straightforward career progression. However, there's a lot of territories that have been sold into a corner of sorts and because of the specific targets that absolutely need to be sold the management has gotten extremely picky and will specifically target reps from orgs such as JnJ, Applied and Medtronic to come in and flip the remaining surgeons that they've already been selling to.
