Penny's has decent management. Easy place to find work quickly, but for average pay (relative to elsewhere). - Cashier / Customer Service JCPenney Employee Review

Pros

They are quick to hire and it can be useful as an extra income working part time. They are flexible with your schedule, so you can basically choose your hours so long as you let them know two weeks ahead of time. Employees receive added discounts for shopping in the store (on top of all other discounts). In general the management on the floor is fine to work with.

Cons

As a cashier, management is pushing you to pester customers for more credit card applications. Long standing periods making your feet/knees hurt. Low hourly wage. Boring work, not necessarily looking forward to it every day. The polices are not well defined in regards to dealing / handling customers ... managers letting customers get away with things that defy rhythm or reason (some manager being too lenient, and some holding their ground) letting you as an employee confused of what is acceptable and what is not.

Pros

If you like working early morning hours and getting off early in the afternoon (which I do) this is a great part-time job. I was a college student when I worked here so it worked perfectly with my schedule. The pay is pretty decent and the people you work with are friendly.

Cons

Only real downside is that it's retail. You're going to run into some rude customers from time to time. There's always work to do and not enough time given to do it sometimes. But as long as you work hard and managers see that you're trying your best there isn't too much pressure put on you.
