Pros

Nothing positive to say except the little food shop in the lobby is decent (if you don't mind unhealthy food each day).

Cons

My work was for a subcontractor at JIEDDO (now JIDO) in Reston, VA. - Primarily staffed by Butts in Seats DoD Subcontractors. -I heard the N word and F word (at work) all within 24 hour period. In front of others. Enough said. -Foreign intelligence collection occurs against people who work here. People take pictures of people in parking lot, and sometimes approach you and ask what you do in the building. Phones not allowed inside, but break-ins into people's cars result in phones stolen. -My office uses a version of social media which is widely known to be easily hacked (and posts movement/travel info to it). Convenience over security. -Parking lot provides about 50% parking and leadership won't simply pay to rent another lot nearby and shuttle people, or (and this is crazy thought) move to another SCIF certified building. With hundreds of SCIF buildings in the Reston/Sterling area, this would not be hard. Instead their answer is to move to a base. -The type of talent that would be satisfied with this work environment for any period of time, are people just doing "butts in seats" work, trying to make it to retirement. - If you want to be challenged, make a difference, or work within a positive culture- this is not the place to work.

Pros

A fantastic, relevant combat mission that has a true impact on what is going on with deployed forces at the forward edge. If you are in uniform, this is a great way to get joint credit and credit for working in the Pentagon without actually having to be in the building. Also on the cutting edge of technology and intel analysis!

Cons

As the organization has down-sized it has shed workers but increased senior staff and become top-heavy. This hurts what was once an agile and entrepreneurial organization. In some ways it has become a haven for retired military turned GS15's, some of whom have little supervisory responsibility. There is one SES who adds zero value and in fact no one, civilian or military, could tell me what he did. Even a couple of O6's were hanging out with no real job responsibilities. It also has a somewhat incestuous relationship with its contractors. Over time, though contracts have changed, the faces have stayed the same.

Pros

JIEDDO has the noble mission of protecting service members and US Government interests across the world. The team is dynamic, multi-disciplined and functional to quickly resolve challenges to warfighter needs. The rapid fielding abilities are a model for equipping agencies for the Services to emulate.

Cons

Stove piped efforts with an unwillingness to share information due to possibility of infringing on some misplaced sense of possession of solution development; Empire building for the last half-decade has created monstrosities of sub-departments which do not follow the commands of the Senior Leadership; Toxic leaders, who may be experts in their fields, are infecting the climate and creating a place where nothing gets completed because "someone might use OUR stuff to get the credit". Summary, the element needs to get 'back to the basics' of who they ultimately service.
