Pros

Kind, smart and talented members of the team

Cons

Jennifer, herself - she is at the core of all problems her company is facing. Do not buy the lie she touts that sustainability is at all part of their model or that every piece is “handcrafted in Brooklyn”- the line is mass-produced in China and created with no concern for quality. The materials are cheap and unethical, and the pieces are not created to last, yet the prices being charged are on par with what some brands charge for fine jewelry that is made with true materials and high quality craftsmanship. The team is smart and talented but they’re being held hostage by a toxic environment and abuse perpetuated by Jennifer. In the short time I was there, I was told by multiple team members about the disrespect they experienced from Jennifer. I’m also pretty positive that the financial outlook is bleak- they have to be hemorrhaging money, the way they pour money into huge collections to align with fast fashion calendars that don't actually sell, and they sit on hoards of purchased dead-stock material that will never go into production. The cherry on top is that the space itself is hazardous- I brought my air quality monitor in and the results for CO2, pm 2.5 and VOC were off the charts poor to hazardous and could be reported to OSHA. This place is harmful psychologically and physically. DO NOT WORK HERE. The worst experience I’ve ever had in my over 2 decades of professional experience.

Pros

JB has a close-knit office environment and a lot of team members have been there for years. The product is really beautifully crafted and jewelry is made in Greenpoint studio! Lots of face time with the designer, room for collaboration and creativity.

Cons

You wear a lot of hats as is normal with a small team environment but great for learning.

Pros

Collaborative atmosphere Easy to get to Compensation is appropriate for the scope of the job Hybrid flexibility when needed Dynamic team Reasonable hours and expectations I have worked at a few different small mid to high-end labels in the past decade and coupled with my own personal growth in the industry and the JB team's continual dedication to being an inclusive and upbeat environment, this really has been the best fit so far. Anyone who has experience on smaller teams and working for the smaller brands has strong potential to flourish here.

Cons

meetings have a tendency to not be held at the appointed times or consistently rescheduled Seasonal workloads can bottle neck when Production/Development calendars overlap In my experience the above two call outs are pretty universal in the industry and especially in the smaller private labels since you need to have extra flexibility to pivot to the most important and impactive strategy to sell more product.
