Pros

Some really knowledgeable, kind colleagues who are happy to spend time teaching you as much as possible. Yearly company trip. Good bonuses.

Cons

Management has no idea what they’re doing and creates policies that make no logical sense. You are evaluated based on how much your boss likes you and not your actual performance as there are no clear KPIs or proper evaluations done. People who are not doing any work are not fired and the responsible employees end up having to cover their workload. Management is made up of expats who have short (3year) visions until they go back to Japan. Expats who should have been sent back to Japan are still around. They dont want to rock the boat during their tenure and end up not making any improvements whatsoever. Procurement process is a joke and is just creating orders in the system and not any actual vendor negotiation.

Pros

Paid on time Mostly Japanese managers with Japanese spoken in the office and written in emails. American and Japanese work culture combined.

Cons

Co-workers will attempt to sabotage you with a smile on. Low technically skilled colleagues, High Tech Debt. Very poor documentation which is used as job security by most of the local seniors. Japanese culture of voluntary overtime combined with American Layoff culture yield a truly awful work life balance, high stress and very low job security. Large amount of visa work holders. Usually titled as Senior Managers that will only stay for a short time. If they mess up its ok because they will go back to JPN and not deal with these clients again. They suffer no repercussions for poor work, usually having poor English and average Technical skills. They get to learn with your livelyhood and job security at risk. These will be the decision makers for projects and when things go wrong the non-Jpnese workers will be marked.
