Pros
CENTER PRO: There is a beautiful center.
HOURS PRO: They are hiring full-time BTs.
TRAVEL PRO: Mileage is reimbursed 64 cents per mile.
SUPERVISORS PRO: The BCBAs are delightful: dedicated, knowledgeable, professional but fun, and open to BT feedback and insight. They are truly the best in the business.
Cons
If you can live with these things, then this is the job for you:
CENTER CON: The center is rarely used except the summer. I was hired in the summer and worked at the center all the time. Then I had no clients in the center, travelled between clients far from Westford, (center is now only open on Wednesdays), and I never see my coworkers. And there are NEVER all staff meetings or staff events… It’s isolating.
HOURS CON: Good luck actually making those hours. I have a coworker who did the math and said her take-home this year was like $25,000. How does that happen if she’s full time? Two good reasons: here there is a long waiting period for getting matched with clients (I.E: New hire, BT’s hours change, kid starts school and we can't go into schools, parents request different BT) because KC doesn't get a lot of clients. Also: clients can and will cancel without 24 hours notice, and if they are insurance (90% of clients are): insurance doesn't pay for sessions that don't happen. I have shown up at daycares and houses and was no-showed at least 20 times. No call or text. Just outside ringing the doorbell for 20 minutes until I can text the BCBA and leave.
TRAVEL CON: I had to travel so much, sometimes sessions were like 30 MILES between clients in traffic, and scheduling often tried to skip my meal break without paying me for time lost (FYI: If you work 6 or more hours a day in MA, you are entitled to a 30 min meal break. If they schedule you for a meal break during a work related task like driving between cleints, that's not a meal break and they still owe you money for the time that meal break didn't happen).
SUPERVISORS CON: Everyone ranked above a BT in the company is a stickler and nitpicky about small things. They will stiff you on pay because they think you won't advocate for better. Two BTs told me they were pulled into meetings and criticized: one for not being able to work Fridays (she told them she couldn't when she was hired?), and one was called a name and criticized by upper management because the mom of a client didn't like her (it wasn't even related to her job performance and that BT is IRL Miss Rachel?).
