Pros
Hard work really gets noticed. I started part time and worked so hard that I had full time within 3 months and became an assistant food service leader in a year. It feels good to work hard at a place where the owners really "seem" to care about you. Depending on the store, a good store leader/assistant store leader team will be amazing. Unfortunately that isn't the case at most stores. Last good thing is that you can ALWAYS find things to do at kwik trip. It's not a boring job by any means. There are opportunities to move up, but know that you need to either work really hard or be the managements favorite.
Cons
You only get 2 ten minute breaks per 8 hours. They aren't super strict at some stores but really that isn't enough time. Not to mention the entire TEN MINUTES you're on call basically. If they need you, you need to stop eating and help up front. Really it's only ten freaking minutes. Next, management can get very high school-ish. They're bored I'm sure, can't be the most engaging thing to be a manager besides the drama you get to be a part of. Also my manager was very two faced. Pretty much any problem he would complain about it with you, but then not change a thing, and even complain about your side of it when talking to someone else. VERY catty. And also if you aren't a total brown noser, most managers don't give a crap about you. It's sad to see a girl flirting with a married man just to get better hours and it works. Most stores will NOT tolerate you calling in. Which good employees rarely do anyways. Benefits are a joke now. I paid $100 a check for insurance that didn't cover anything. The week system is RIDICULOUS. It's Friday-Thursday, so I ended up working 70+ hours in a week with no overtime. Pretty sneaky way to screw over your employees. The drama in general at kwik trip is pathetic. Especially it coming from ALL areas of the store, even store leaders. Don't plan on moving up to a rewarding career until you're 20+ years in or hired for it. In most cases, even management works weekends and crap hours. The reason I quit is because I realized I was basically working at a fast food joint until I moved WAY up. My manager took so much vacation and was so unhappy while he was in the store that I realized why was I waiting for the opportunity to still be stressed out but just have a bunch more responsibilities? Not worth my time. But maybe worth someone else's.
